Our Mission

To share the light and hope of Jesus Christ in the community of Bastion Popular, through a comprehensive, innovative and intercultural education.

Our Vision

To be a Christian school known for quality and excellence in education, training individuals with Christian values and principles who are equipped to serve both God and society.

Our Story

Canadian missionaries Tim and Lil Horne, along with a few Ecuadorian friends, founded Hope of Bastion School in 1997. The school was named “Hope of Bastion” not only because education provides hope but also because it is founded on the belief that demonstrating the love of Jesus through quality Christian education will bring hope to the entire community.

The first property purchased served as a gathering place for prayer and fellowship, and also became the playground for the one-room kindergarten. Trusting in the Lord’s provision, 20 kindergarten children from the neighborhood became the school’s first students and later graduated from grade 6 at Hope of Bastion School.

As additional grades were introduced and adjoining properties were acquired, the school expanded its facilities to include a gymnasium, a kitchen, a computer lab, a library, office spaces, and an additional patio. In 2015, the school began offering grades 7-9 and grew to a student body of 200.

Hope of Bastion School employs 25 staff members, 13 of whom are from the Bastion community. The school operates primarily through financial support from North America. The child sponsorship program connects sponsors with students at the school, fostering significant relationships. This program covers more than 80% of the school’s expenses, with the remainder funded by individual gifts designated for Hope of Bastion School.
